A very enjoyable Girls National was run by Moredon MX at a superbly prepared Wroxton track near Banbury on 3rd and 4th September. With around 120 ladies taking part over the two days the racing was very close and exciting in all groups which provoked a lot of cheering and screaming by the spectators.
The auto riders did themselves proud by racing the full track throughout the weekend. The wins and runner up spots were all shared by two girls and it eventually came down to the last race to decide the overall winner. With a great last race Bethany Allison took the overall victory. Molly Shutler was a very worthy runner up with Esme King third and Kady Moore from Scotland taking fourth place after having to head off home to race at her local club event on the Sunday.
The Junior race was dominated by super-fast Leonni Tighe who also won the Josh Coppins Trophy for the highest amount of points over the weekend. With a great second place overall and five out of six second place race finishes was Ciara Robertson. A battle for third and fourth places saw eventual third place Katie Booth having a great first day whereas fourth placed Tara-Jade Stacey had a great second day. A very consistent Alana Mae Atkins took fifth ahead of sixth place Abbie Chambers who had a great start to her weekend but suffered a few problems too.
With very close racing in the Small Wheeled 85cc group the spectators were doing their very best to cheer on the two riders who shared most of the race wins. Eventually Elaine MacEarchern took the overall top spot with Tara Mcleod finishing as runner up. Lucy Calvert started the weekend with a race win but finished a very respectable third overall. Demi Verploegh made her long trip worthwhile by finishing in fourth ahead of Marni Saunders and Kathryn Booth in fifth and sixth places.
It would have taken a very special rider to catch Lauren Collingwood in the Big Wheeled 85cc group as she powered to a maximum result winning all of her races and taking the overall win. Chelsea Gowland was very thankful for the five out of six races to count rule after she rode great but suffered a DNF on Sunday, her efforts secured her a second place overall. A very consistent Ellie Caines took third ahead of Bethany Farmer in fourth, Nadiya Hussain fifth and Chloe MacDonald in sixth.
With thirty riders on the start line there was battles throughout the field in the Senior group. Another maximum was taken by overall winner Stacey Fisher. Tanisha Thomas, Danni Marsh, Jorja Johnson and Billie Dunlop all battled in every race to finish overall in second, third, fourth and fifth places with only 10 points separating the four of them. A good ride by Kayleigh Durston saw her finish in sixth.
The Adult ladies group was won by super smooth Emma Davis who was another rider to take maximum points over the weekend. The riders who finished in second, third and fourth place overall were Alix Dunlop, Louise Williams and Danielle Hipgrave who all shared various race podium positions. Sharing equal points, fifth place went to Louise Powell and sixth to Vickie Parkin.
The boys Support group was won by James Harrison with second place going to Sion Talbot and third to Ben Harrison.
A massive thank you to everyone who helped make the event run very smoothly and also to Chris Murphy from NORA Quads who changed their venue to allow us to have the track.
